Amber Gaze
Beneath the crimson boughs she stands, A lady wrapped in fallen leaves, Where autumn's breath moves through the lands And gold drifts down like whispered grieves. The sun sinks low, a dying coal, And in her eyes its embers glow; They hold the blaze of a fading whole, A sunset caught in quiet flow. Each flicker of the fading light Settles softly in her gaze, As twilight hushes day to night And dusk resumes its amber haze. So let the forest dim and fade, For in her eyes the sun still stays, A gentle fire that will not fade Until the autumn's end arrays.
Autumn's Breath
She walks where amber leaves descend, Her footsteps soft on paths of rust, The forest hums, the light grows thin, And autumn's breath lingers in her hair. The maples blush in crimson gowns, The wind unspools a silver thread, She pauses where the old oaks stand, And listens to the leaves they've shed. A scent of woodsmoke, damp and sweet, Drifts through the boughs like a whispered vow, And every gust that stirs her curls Carries the season's fading now. So let the frost begin its art, Let winter wait beyond the hill; She wears the forest's final gold, And keeps it, gently, where it's still.
Basket of Acorns
Beneath the copper boughs she roams, her woven basket on her hip, where fallen acorns, brown as loam, rest softly in each fraying tip. The forest hushes, leaves drift down, as amber light slants through the trees; she bends with care, without a frown, and gathers gifts the wind release. Each nut she lifts, a secret small, a promise of the spring to come, and in her basket, one and all, the autumn settles, warm and numb. She pauses where the shadows gather, her hands still full of russet grace, and hums a tune the oaks would rather keep close within their rooted place.
