The Last Creak of the Stair
The hallway hums with evening's hush,
A lamp left low, a whispered glow,
And Mom's soft steps begin to fade
Beyond the door where shadows grow.
She pauses once before the room,
A hand against the frame to rest,
Then turns away with tender grace,
And leaves the dark to do its best.
I hear the echo, thin and far,
A rhythm slipping down the hall,
Until the house is wrapped in calm,
And nothing stirs at all.
Good night, dear Mom, I'll hold the sound
Of every step you took today,
And dream beneath the quiet roof
Until the morning finds its way.
Moonlight for Mom
Good night, dear Mom, the day is done,
The stars come out to greet the sun's long rest.
And moonlight spills across your warm, sweet smile,
A silver glow that calms the restless west.
You tucked my worries in with gentle hands,
And hummed the lullabies I still recall.
Now let the night wrap softly round your heart,
And keep you safe beneath its quiet shawl.
Sleep well, my mother, through the velvet hours,
While dreams drift past like petals on a stream.
I'll keep the night watch over all your sleep,
Until the dawn awakens you to dream.
Sleep Tight, Dear Mom
The day is done, the lamps grow low,
The stars come out, the winds blow slow.
So close your eyes, let worries fly,
And rest your heart beneath the sky.
You've hummed us songs and kissed our brows,
You've mended tears and soothed our vows.
Now let the quiet wrap you tight,
Sleep tight, dear Mom, until morning light.
