Threads of Morning
I wake with your name unspooling,
A ribbon slipping through my hands,
The room still shaped like your laughter,
The pillow holding where you stood.
I reach for you in the gray light,
But dreams dissolve like salt in rain,
Yet something lingers at the edges,
A single word, a shifted glance.
So I hold that fragment close,
A lantern cupped against the dawn,
And keep you there a little longer,
Before the day can take you on.
Tomorrow's Door
I close my eyes and count the stars,
then drift beyond the hush of night,
hoping the dark will open wide
and lead me back to you by sight.
Your laughter drifts through silver halls,
the way it did when days were new,
and every corner of my sleep
remembers how it felt with you.
So tomorrow, when the moon grows thin,
let dreams unlatch their gentle gate,
and carry me across the dusk
to where your waiting footsteps wait.
Morning Without You
I surface slow from sleep's warm sea,
and reach for you, but find the sheet
now cool beneath my open hand,
the pillow dented, dim, and bare.
The dream still clings, a fading thread:
your laugh, the light across your face,
the way you turned to say my name
as if the world had hushed for us.
Then waking strikes, a quiet blow,
and every room hums with your lack,
the coffee cooling in its cup,
the window full of gray, unlit.
I carry you through hours of day,
a tender ache I cannot name,
until the night returns to hold
the ghost of you in dreams again.
