The Fool's Gambit
The phone lit up at half past nine,
A message blunt, a text design:
"Your car's been towed, the shop's on fire,
The dog ate Grandma's last tire!"
Mom dropped the spoon, Dad grabbed his keys,
The cat leapt high off the Christmas trees.
My brother screamed, the toddler wailed,
And Grandpa swore he'd never failed.
Then silence fell, a ticking clock,
As someone checked the calendar's block.
A snicker rose from the hallway door:
"April Fools!" - we'd fallen for it, sure!
So now we're wary, every ping,
We glance at dates before we sing,
But deep inside we've all agreed
The trickster's prank was pure, sweet speed.
The Shirt Says Kick Me
I left the house in a shirt so bold,
With words in print both loud and cold:
"Kick me," it read, in letters plain,
A joke I wore to share the gain.
The first to pass just gave a grin,
The second chuckled, shook his chin.
A third asked, "Are you asking, friend?"
I said, "Not me, the shirt's the end!"
By noon my back had earned a laugh,
A teasing nudge, a tickled half.
No boot came flying, no harm was done,
Just smiles that shone like morning sun.
So wear your joke and let it show,
The world is warmer, all can know:
Sometimes the gag that makes you the target
Is the very thing that makes folks forget.
The Dangling Prank
Little Max was snoring deep,
His mouth wide open, dreams asleep,
When I tied a spider, black and furry,
To a thread, and let it hurry.
Down it swung, so soft and slow,
Right above his nose it'd go!
He twitched, he snorted, eyes flew wide,
And then he screamed and tried to hide!
But when he saw the fake, no more,
He laughed so hard he fell on the floor.
The spider's still hanging there today,
Waiting for a sibling to play!
