Hearth and Amber
The maple sighs and lets its gold Drift softly down the garden wall, And through the dusk the wind grows bold, Whispering to the hall. We draw the blanket, close and warm, The kettle hums its low refrain, And every crackle of the storm Is hushed beside the pane. Your hand finds mine across the quilt, The lamplight pools like honeyed wine, And autumn, restless, leaves its guilt In rustles down the line. So let the year turn cold and grey, Let frost arrive with silver teeth; We'll keep this little room today, Together, warm beneath.
Crunch and Companionship
We wandered where the maples bled their gold, the path a carpet, crisp and softly worn. Each step a whisper, brittle, bright, and bold, as if the earth itself had just been born. You laughed at every crackle underfoot, and I, in turn, grew louder just to match. The wind would hush, then stir the leaves to shoot like sparks across the hush of the dusk's latch. We spoke of nothing grand, of little things: the chill that lingers in the morning air, the robin's song, the way the twilight clings to every branch that's shedding weight with care. And when the sun slipped low and shadows grew, we kept on walking, rustling side by side, two friends who needed nothing more to do than trust the crunching ground and feel their pride. So here's to autumn's noisy, golden trail, and to the friend who makes the journey sweet, whose steps beside mine never seem to fail to turn the rustle of the leaves to a beat.
Shared Warmth
Beneath the amber canopy we stroll, Where autumn leaves are rustling, soft and bright. Your hand in mine, the chilly breeze takes toll, But one scarf wrapped around us keeps the night At bay, its wool a hearth against the cold. The maple sighs and drops its gilded lace, Each crimson flake a whisper at our feet. I feel your breath, a warm and gentle trace, As we walk on, two hearts in step, complete, While dusk unspools its silver, quiet grace. So let the winds grow sharp and skies turn gray, For we have found a warmth no frost can steal. Together through the rustle, come what may, Our shared scarf wraps our hearts in tender zeal, And autumn's chill can only bid us stay.
