Ordinary Architecture
We never bought a grand design, no marble steps, no gilded door. We built our home from coffee cups and Sunday mornings on the floor. A borrowed ladder, paint in streaks, a radio that hums in tune, the creak of stairs that tell us both when someone's coming home by noon. We laid our walls with shared small hours, a burnt-toast laugh, a dish to rinse, the way your hand finds mine in sleep as if it's where my hand belongs since. No blueprint held what mattered most: the porch light left on, the kettle's sigh, the two of us, just us, enough to make a roof against the sky.
Merging at Dusk
The sun sinks low, a copper coin, and stretches long across the sand. Two shadows lift from where we stand and drift together, soft and join. No fence of light divides our ground; his edge meets mine, the tide hums near. We are the dark that draws us near, the quiet where the two are found. The waves erase our footprints slow, but what we made stays in the blend, a single outline, without end, that rises as the stars come go.
Across the Crowded Room
The room is loud with laughter and the clink of glass, A hundred voices tangle, none of them yours to pass. Yet somewhere past the shoulders and the swaying, drifting crowd, I catch a glance of yours, quick and soft, and I am bowed. You look away the moment that our eyes have met, But I have seen the blush that colors your cheeks, and I can't forget. The music hums, the lights grow warm, the strangers blur to gray, And there is only you, and the secret we don't say. Two glances stolen, fleeting as a spark, Yet each one lights a fire deep inside my heart's dark. So let the crowd go on without us, let the night spin on, For just the two of us are here, and the evening's just begun.
