The Marvel of the Mundane
I've studied stars and ancient tomes,
I've climbed the peaks and crossed the foams,
But nothing wins my wondering eye
Quite like a sock that wanders by.
It vanishes in laundry's maw,
Then reappears, a single paw,
Alone, forlorn, without its mate,
A riddle sewn by fate.
No oracle has solved the case,
No scientist can find its place,
Yet still it ambles from the drum,
The most interesting thing I've come.
The Great Debate of Wacky Folk
Said Mr. Pickle, plump and proud,
"The most interesting thing is a cloud
that wears a hat and sings out loud!"
Said Granny Gloom with a dusty frown,
"Nothing beats a sock that's upside down,
or socks that wander all over town."
The Baker sniffed, "Oh please, it's bread,
with butter melting in your head!"
The Postman coughed, "No, no, instead,
the mailbox yawns when letters are fed."
Then Professor Pongo, wild and bright,
shouted, "Pickles! Socks! Who's right?
The most fascinating thing tonight
is a goose who juggles on a kite!"
They argued till the moon grew thin,
each one certain they would win,
but none could say where the fun had been
except in the squabble, grand and kin.
The Most Interesting Thing
A debate at the table one night,
On what's most fascinating, took flight:
The cat said "my nap,"
The owl said "my map,"
And the goldfish just swam out of sight!
The baker proclaimed "it's my bread,"
The banker said "coins, it's been said,"
But the mailman then sighed,
"Every letter's a ride,"
And the room fell apart, laughing instead.
